FRIENDS OF THE MUSEUM
What are The
Friends?
The Friends of The James Hall Museum of
Transport is an enthusiast group consisting of members of the community
with an interest in the history and preservation of land transport in
South Africa. Examples of this type of transport are:
Steam Driven vehicles
Electrically powered vehicles
Motorcycles and Bicycles
Motor cars Commercial and
Industrial modes of Land Transport
What we do
We assist the Curator of the Transport
Museum where and when needed. This includes outings where we take some of
the museum to the community.
We assist with the planning and co-ordination of special events and activities held
at the Museum such as the Annual Hobbies Fair, Fire-fighting day, international museum day,
agricultural implements and Gymkhana day, cars in the park and Auto
Africa.
When we meet
The first Wednesday of each month is an
evening meeting which is held at the museum, where activities are planned,
fund raisers discussed and these meetings are generally followed by items
of interest such as: talks on items of relevance and videos etc.
On the first Sunday of each
month our plans are put into action whether it be to paint a steam
vehicle, re-arrange exhibits, polish a fire engine or just enjoy making
use of the mobile vehicles for an out-reach project. These meetings are
generally followed by a bring and Braai.
What the funds the Friends raise are used for
All money raised is used
specifically to benefit the Museum. The Curator guides and advises us to
what is available to buy or which vehicle is in need of maintenance. We
then decide on a project and raise funds to enable us to achieve our objective.
